It’s that time of year again! TED2012, embracing the theme of the “Full Spectrum,” takes place from February 28 – March 2, 2012 in Long Beach, California. TEDxMIA is bringing one session of this annual event featuring great minds to Miami.
Our TEDxMIA livestream of TED2012 will be at The Stage Miami on March 1, from 5:30pm – 9:30pm. Come and mingle with your local TED fans before the videos start at 7pm.
The event is free of charge. Register and reserve your spot on EventBrite.
See our TEDxMIALive 2012 event page for more details about what session we’re showing, time details, and food and drink.
Our final event of 2011 was under the stars at Miami’s own central park, Fairchild Tropical and Botanic Gardens on Friday, December 16. About 400 TED fans, Fairchild members and people keen to share ideas assembled under a huge marquee, sipped on TEDxtinis and enjoyed moonlit tours of the gardens while discussing how to sustain, protect and develop Miami.
The Talks
Carl Lewis: Pollenating a new generation of scientists
Chad Oppenheim: Re_creational architecture
Nick Gunia: Greening schools one student at a time

After two simulcast events — TED 2011 and TED Global — and our main event at the New World Center in September, this intellectual garden party at Fairchild gave attendees an insight into how local thought leader’s ideas are so closely connected to some of the most amazing talks available to watch on TED.com. The format was totally different and took us on journey from pollen to re_creational architecture to solving what appear to be complex problems with uniquely simple solutions.
Thanks to everyone for their support and participation in TEDxMIA at Fairchild — and all of the other TEDxMIA events in 2011.
TEDxMIA is hosting a free livestream watch party of selected sessions from the 2011 national TEDxWomen conference Thursday, December 1 from 6-10:30 p.m at MiamiShared in Miami, FL.
This intimate TEDxMIAWomen event offers the opportunity to witness the global conversation, again moderated by Pat Mitchell, in addition to fostering the discussion locally with fellow thinkers and innovators.
Space is limited to 70 people.

The world’s ugliest music has gone viral! At TEDxMIA 2011 in September, we were entertained with a number of musical elements. The strangest of those was the Perfect Ping, a totally random piece of music based on prime number theory, and the sonar ping, composed by a mathematician.
TEDxMIA speaker and mathematics professor Scott Rickard’s talk on The World’s Ugliest Music is up there with some of the most watched TEDx talks. Additionally, Newshour on the BBC World Service will be talking to him about “What is ‘ugly music’?” on Sunday, November 6.
Check out Newshour and the BBC World Service for more information and to listen to the radio piece about ‘ugly music.’
